Bite me
Posted On 09/02/2008 15:40:38 by Philly
So I've been saying I have a bout of the summer flu, I found out yesterday that it wasn't - I'd been bitten by something small and nasty.

About the same time as I got feverish, I noticed a red and painful mark on my right leg, which got worse as the weekend wore on. So yesterday morning I went and saw my doctor - who took one look at the - then - lage patch of red and said it's cellulitis possibly from an insect bite. So I was sent away with a double course of antibiotics and told to come back tomorrow (today) so the practice nurse could check on progress.

Fortunately, after a day and a half of antibiotics, that deep red mark has faded to a nice fine purple - and the nurse even foundthe spot where the insect bit me. Another thing, as my leg is starting to itch, the nurse prescribed some antihistimines - which now tallies my meds up to 8 different things (so if you shake me, I rattle )

So, I just thought I'd bring you this update

You guys have brown recluses in the U.K.? Just a thought lol. Very funny sarah, but I do agree...

Then again, I don't usually get the bottle of wine or roses.... They just treat me like such a piece of meat ::Sniffle::.... Don't I have feelings too? Don't I!?!?! I told them I don't concent to uninvited biting, but they just don't listen.... Next thing you know, she's taking your cat, your T.V., and leaving you with a $400 cell phone bill and old chinese food in the fridge........... I need some chocolate now ::cries::

Blimey! And I only thought they had vicious man-eating insects in the deep south, namely humid, sub-tropical Alabama! We have mosquitoes and spiders that show up at your door holding a bouquet of roses and a bottle of wine... May your recovery be quick and may you never endure this again!

I had the same thing happen to me last summer. I got the sore on my leg and it was a HUGE water blister looking thing. I still don't know what bit me, but whatever it was, it left a mark on my leg bigger than the size of a quarter. Dr put me on some oral steriods and some antibodics as well.....Steriods suck and make me crazy....LITERALLY. I only took the for 3 out of the 7 days I was suppose to because I go postal on them!

It cleared up in a week or more.

This is a very good question, We don't usually get the kind of insects that take this kind of a shine to us - aside from fleas and horse flies. The doctors said there are a few small nasties flying around the English countryside this summer, and one of them may have bitten me, we just don't know which one.

Some wee beastie from the garden maybe. Take care my friend and I'd invest in a can of bug spray!

Yikes, Philly! I know, from my mom's horrible experience last summer, how kind of devastating bites can be. Do you know what bit you?

Shake, rattle, and roll on, young man, I wish you mo' bettah healthings
