You know something, there was a freaking panic going on tonight in upstate S.C.... And do you know why? Oh I'm sure plenty of us do... I'm told that the southern coastal states are being the hardest hit with increased gas prices this hurricane around.... In fact two days ago reg unleaded was $3.39 a gallon....Tonight I go out and see a gas station at $3.98 a gallon and everyone and their brother is packed in trying to get some... I go further down the road and I see $4.09 and then $4.29...... You have got to be fecking kidding me!!! In the period of 2 days, 48 hours, the beetroot of gas rose almost a dollar? And the oil companies say they are completely justified in doing this because the oil rigs are being abandoned and the reserve is the lowest in many years....
First off, yes, the rigs must be abandoned in light of a hurricane coming, I get that fact...Even a SMALL increase in price.... With that being said HURRICANES DONT SNEAK UP ON PEOPLE ANYMORE!!! You dancing chimps have had nearly 2 weeks of warning that this particular hurricane was coming (Thanks to it hitting the brakes over cuba and what not). You mean to tell me that in the 2 week warning time, you didn't put a bit away in a reserve stock pile just in case?!?!?! Seriously?!?!?!? And furthermore, its not like hurricane season just randomly appears every damn year, its a pretty predictable thing... It just seems mildly logical to me that if hurricane season is coming up, you just might want to do some freaking preventive management! You mean to tell me that in those multi million dollar oil company manager retreats / circle jerk fests, they never taught you lemmings how to plan ahead?!?!?!? Well so be it... I guess thinking is a lost art these days....
Why am I so pissed this go around? Well aside from the obvious about paying a projected $5 a gallon as the rumour goes, I'm pretty much going to have to quit my job if that holds out for any period of time... Hell for that matter, my job will simply cease to exist more than likely.... GSP is a small airport with only perhaps 1500 pax a day leaving... and thats being damn optimistic... I'm sure the airlines will simply feel that flying into smaller cities such as mine don't make economic sense anymore and simply end service.... This will of course leave one or maybe two airlines left to try and make it economically justifiable to continue service from here, and all the laid off ramp rats / above wing agents will be clamouring for a job at the one or two airlines left.... Even if this doesn't happen, its nearly 24 miles to the airport from my house now.... They are cutting hours back and in general I will not make enough to be able to afford working out there.... Seeing as I have nothing but airline experience in my resume, I'm pretty well locked into that one division, less of course I care to flip burgers or work in a factory (Which there is no way in HELL I am doing either again).... And the other two airports in the city don't do airlines, just private... So even if I manage to pull a job out of my hat from them, no more flight benefits....
So to the oil companies I say thank you.... Thank you for showing me such a good time..... I would typically assume that someone wanting to take me home and *%^$ me, would at least buy me dinner first (Maybe even give me a rose or compliment my hair or a box of chocolate or something ::Sniffle::)...... Obviously, however, I am not as classy as I had imagined, and I'm not even worth a trip to burger king.... Not even a, "Hey, take a deep breath, lets experiment" (Thank you quag meyer
).... But its ok, I just hope at least you had a good time guys....
Oh and on a final note, hurricanes have being happening since before man crawled his dead arse up out of the ocean.... Does anyone remember this crap happening back in the 80s when a 'cane dropped by to tour the gulf? I was young, granted, but I don't...
