So my musical guru, the fantastic and acerbic and SCOTTISH WonderLips (soweroner) just turned me on to some actual Scottish bands, and I really just wanted to share and also to publicly thank him.
He's kinda also my tech guru, too, in that he just also intro'd me to torrents. Who knew? I sorta did, I think, but not really, and what a cool thing, lol.
Anyway, Glasvegas. They're lovely and I love that I can kinda hear the dude's accent (I'm a big ol' PUSHOVER for a Scottish accent. Kind of obsessed, actually, with the Scottish thing; the accent makes my ears happy and my knees weak, lol, and don't get me started on bagpipes (they're good, nuff said). I'm also in love with Irish and British accents, of course, but I must say, Scottish does it for me).
They kinda sound, to me, like a 50s or 60s era band, with the jangly guitars and harmonies.
So yeah, here they were on Jools Holland (did I have ANY other choice as to which vid to post? Yeah, I did not, lol), doing Daddy's Gone:
The other was Biffy Clyro, and I'm IN. LOVE. just love love love :)
Here's a more recent one, "Glitter and Trauma."
Please to note that the bass player and drummer are both kind of on the ginger side of things (at least to my eyeballs)
Here's another, from when, as Wonder says, they were "wee nippers." Great song, called "57," and I just love it and I hope some of you do, too! :)
Well I would have said Glasvegas influence would be U2, as the twangy guitar is more reminiscent of them than say Gerry and the Pacemakers or the Animals.
Like Jess I think it great that you are listening to a better range of Scottish music as what you have can hardly be called the best Scotland can offer.
And I'm thinking that our Craig may not be all he seems, I think hes a mid 40's crofter with a great head of silvering red hair as well as a great beard on him
