Ike Hits Ohio
Posted On 09/17/2008 22:31:39 by CelticCurls
Hi all,

More delays in getting pictures up.  Hurricane Ike really rammed Ohio, as far as Ohio can get hit by hurricanes.  Nothing compared to Texas; we are just inconvenienced and most of us are being very patient.  A lot of AEP linepeople were sent to help down south, which slowed our recovery a bit, but we can well wait.

If you didn't hear, Ohio is under a state of emergency.  We had hurricane force winds of 60 mph with gusts well into the 70's.  I missed it all, as my Sunday plane back from Atlanta was delayed because of it.  But when I finally made it back, the airport and a handful of other places were the only ones with power.  My apartment and workplace just got power today, my parents still don't have it, as well as hundreds of thousands of others - some will be as long as Sunday or later to get power restored.  Schools and businesses are just starting to get back working again.

But we're lucky, very few causalities, mostly just fallen trees and lost power.  And as some have said, it's not boiling hot, dead winter, or flooding here, thank goodness.  We're thinking of the less fortunate south of us.

Wow, we haven't had a major storm for a very long time - end of October 87 - with 100 mph winds, south coast was hit badly with practicly every tree knocked down - and power outages between Bath and London. Glad your safe, and there was no loss of life there. :)

Yea, both Kroger's near me have the generators going, 3 lights in the whole store, almost need a flashlight.  And the frozen food's all locked up, with just enough power leftover for some registers.  Yea, finding gas Sunday was a little tense as I had driven back from the airport on fumes.

Nice to get a shower after 60-70 hours too.  Ahhh.
