Now, before any of the tree huggers freak out and start yelling at me - let me just state that I am all for trying to change the way we handle our daily lives in order to make the planet a cleaner and safer place to live.
With that said, I have a problem with the whole recent 'Green' movement. Yes, I think it is a good idea and really everyone should find ways to do things more 'greenly'. However, I don't need some millionaire celebrity who owns 5+ cars and flies to all corners of the planet for movie shoots, promotions and vacations telling me that I need to conserve. Furthermore, I don't some celebrity trying to explain to me "proven scientific evidence" as if he/she came up with it themselves.
The facts is - we simply do not have enough empirical data to prove that we are or are not causing the temperatures to rise and the polar caps to melt. Granted what we are doing is not good, but it cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that it is the cause.
Geological evidence has shown that the earth goes through these natural cycles of heating up and cooling off. Natural disasters such as volcanic explosions and large wild fires can also create atmospheric problems as well as temperature changes.
In what is now Indonesia, a 'super volcano' exploded with a force 10,000 times that of Mt. St. Helens. That type of force would have sent smoke, rock and other debris high into the atmosphere and would have blocked out the sun for months. Scientists estimate that planet's temperature dropped by 21 degrees during this time. 21 degrees!! The 'Greenys' are complaining about 2-5 degrees.
Just days ago, scientists released data on a series of volcanos under the Arctic that have erupted in violent and massive explosions between 1999 and 2001. Because they lay beneath 2.5 of surface, the explosions were not allowed to push the gas a magma upwards due to the tremendous pressure of the overlying water. The gas would continue to build in pockets of magma below the ocean floor until enough pressure builds and it pops like a champagne bottle. Along with a lot of heat.
Ice caps melting - volcanos under the ice - potential natural heating cycle of the earth - potential man made build up of heat...... Can you point to one cause? Neither can scientists.
Do your research - not on Google - open a damn book people. My point is this - don't just follow the band wagon on this crap because some good looking celebrity says so. Have you paid attention to how many corporations are now cashing in on the Green Movement? A LOT. And they are all raking in the cash. Funny, isn't it the corporations who have been making environmentally unfriendly products for many years? Plastic bags, plastic bottles, toxic chemicals, low milage vehicles...the list goes on. My favorite is this (and it is hard to get away from)..... plastic garbage bags. Think about it...you are paying for garbage... garbage! It's a garbage bag - it's garbage! Wish i would have thought of that one.
If you want to live a greener lifestyle, then do it. Just do it with reason.....
Switch plastic bags for paper bags. Recycle your plastics, paper and metal products. Drive less if you can. Don't buy a huge honkin SUV just because now you have 1 kid and you 'have to have one'. Don't leave every light on in the house all the time.......
Just use common sense people. That's all it takes.
