National Anthem in Spanish?
I will say this, if we have to cater to hispanic immigrants, by singing our national anthem in the language of the country they came here fleeing from, we should have to sing it in French, German, Italian, and every other language of every other immigrant.

This is another I'm torn on.
Because on the ONE hand, it's the American national anthem, so of course should be in English.
On the OTHER hand, we ARE immigrants, and so why not include them in the "national" pride?
Which could get a mite confusing.
I'm gonna take a stand, much as it galls me, and say it should be in English.
OOOOO liberals everywhere just lost their eyelashes.
(I don't KNOW where it comes from, I SWEAR.)

I consider myself a liberal for the most part, but I agree. Yes, we are ALL immigrants, but most of our ancestors came here legally and had to endure lots of shiznit doing so.

Uh, hello? The National Anthem was written in English and should be sung in the language of which it was written. If I was asked to sing a beautiful Italian Aria in English, it would lose it's beauty...translation in any manner always loses it's beauty. I do not want to have to press one for English when the automated voice comes on....why do I want to sing the American National anthem in Spanish. Do other countries have multiple translations of their National anthems? I should think not! Now why the heck should we? Perhaps an argument would be that we could be the first - oh for the love of spit! I think not- I really think not. Wish I had something more profound or prolific to say on this topic but really where is the argument? AARGH!

Well said, Euni. Although I wouldn't really compare our national anthem to an Italian aria. Every other country's anthem is about how awesome and beautiful the country is. Ours is about our arrogant asses blowing everyone else up. Hahahaha.

AND another thing
The original settlers here in the United States came over on the flippin Mayflower and welp - you guessed it - spoke English....The author or lyricist who wrote our now National Anthem did so out of reverence for the battle at Fort McHenry the morning after the battle - a young lawyer with the gift of poetry, Francis Scott Key, sat down and well, um, er, wrote it. He was amazed that after all the rockets, fighting, and attacks overnight - at the earliest of the dawn, he saw the FLAG Standing there! I do not think he said - hey, should I write this in Spanish. Is someone going to come along and decide this is our National Anthem? NO - he wrote it out of a heartfelt need to expunge his soul of the reverence he was feeling. In fact, he was not sitting there with a guitar or piano - he wrote it on the back of something or other - which later was published under the title - the Battle at Fort McHenry.....it was not until years later it became our National Anthem.' Okay, enough history....needless to say, yes we are a melting pot of a myriad of religious, cultural, etc and so forth - heritage but to change the National Anthem out of a need to satisfy one particular culture borders on the ridiculous. I mean, politically correct or not - it is just wrong. Why not change the National Anthem to Livin La vida Loca....then maybe we can talk.

Actually the first settlers here were Native Americans and we totally destroyed everything they had and then kicked them out and THEY didn't speak English, but...you know.. I'm picking up what you're putting down, yo.

When you choose to emigrate to another country, you should expect to adopt it's language and it's customs. If you dont want to do that, stay the hell where you are. The national anthem should be sung in English.
