Priestly Celibacy

Should Catholic priests still be required to take a vow of celibacy?

I say no, no and no all the way, and not because of the little boy thing. I know abstinence makes men do some strange things, but I don't feel it drives them to molest children. Think there was something not right with those priests to begin with.

I say no because I feel priests should have to have some marital experience if they're to be giving out marital advice.

I think in any religion there are predatorts and happen to agree with you Hilary about the fact that the priests who molest children were probably molested themselves and or have some deep seated sociopathic issues - which are un natural.

I think in this day and age it makes sense that priests should not have to take a vow of celibacy but this is a religious practice...and dates back way far or something,.

Sorry dumbing myself down - but I am just thinking - I keep losing my train of thought tonight - and I am not even drunk....oh my!

I had an experience with a minister - whom I would not let my children near in a million years - so this issue really hits home with me.....

Accept that taking responsibility means not blaming anyone or anything for your situation (and this includes yourself.)

The way I look at is if you are a Catholic and by that I mean a true practicing Catholic then you know the rules. To take the vow is something that you know about since the moment you start thinking about becoming a priest.  I personally could not even remotely think about becoming a nun but there are women that truly have the calling, just like they are men that have the calling for becoming a priest and if that is the case then you must take it all good with the bad.

Yeah, but don't you think it's a little easier for women to go without than men?

I don't think you can pick and choose with religion.  If you're gonna do it then do it properly.

MOURNERS. Read the dress code instructions on funeral invitations very carefully. Sombre, whilst being only 2 letters away from sombrero, is a world apart in tone.

I just think the whole thing is outdated, but I've never been a completely "churchy" person.

And Hills, I think it's more POSSIBLE for women to go without (cuz, you know, batteries?) but not EASIER.

Essentially
